Education at The Tech Schools

What we are & How we reached here

COTTAGE Trust started its work in 2014. The aim was to contribute in the field of general education through increasing number of children going to school and improving their retention in schools with focus on under developed areas. To this end, Bhakkar district was selected and efforts were made to enhance the quality of education in government schools in coordination with the district government by addressing shortfalls in terms of infrastructure, number of teachers, teaching aids, teaching skills, curriculum planning and management.

After more than two years of concerted efforts, it was realized that COTTAGE could not achieve its aim due to lacklustre and at times negative approach of the district education department. It was then decided to open our own school in the suburbs of Rawalpindi district. For this purpose, the first school was opened in a rented building at Takhat Pari village on March 1st, 2017. The second and third schools were also opened in rented premises at Villages Jawa and Dhok Major in early 2019. The Dhok Major campus had to be closed in 2021 due to issues related to Covid-19.

In 2020 the Trust acquired 6 kanals land on Jawa Road near Rawat. A master plan was prepared for development of a state of the art building housing a school along with the technology institute.  Construction for Phase 1 has been completed, where classes are being run from PG to Grade 12. In addition, preparations are underway for commencing short duration technology courses.

Salient Aspects of Education in our system are as under:

  • Exam Cell is established as a nerve centre for the Tech School System to plan, coordinate and control all academic, co-curricular and extra–curricular activities of the schools.
  • All students are grouped into four houses. Students develop leadership qualities, esprit de corps and teamwork through inter house competitions.
  • Computer classes for classes 1 to 8. Students are given practice in typing and are capable of working in MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Excel.
  • We have developed scientific experiments to practice manifestation of scientific concepts mentioned in the Science text books for all classes.
  • To enhance focus on scientific inquiry and to expose our students to various contemporary technologies, we are conducting Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics (STEM) education from classes 3 to 8th.
  • Introduction of Matric Tech and Matric Vocational through Punjab Board of Technical Education.

STEM Education in Tech Schools

The Tech School System has a great role in promoting technical education which plays a vital role in human resource
development of the country. By creating skilled manpower, we can enhance industrial productivity and ensure empowerment of our people, in turn improving the quality of life. For this purpose, we have designed a STEM Lab with appropriate STEM kits to
foster innovation through hands-on experimentation. We are also in the process of developing a Maker-space Lab.

Skills Derived from STEM Education

STEM Education emphasizes collaboration, communication, research, problem solving, critical thinking, and skills that students need to be successful in today’s world regardless of specific interests or career goals. The STEM education is a direct response to the realization that our future will be built on our capacity for innovation, invention, creativity and bringing change by finding right solutions to the problems. Regardless of the future career path considered by these children, these skill sets go a long way in preparing them to be innovative.

Use of STEM Kits in Tech School

We use STEM kits for students to push the boundaries of their ideas and think outside the box, relying on
experimentation rather than assumption. These kits are great because they promote hands-on learning where
students can think creatively, enhancing motor skills. While students learn to use these kits, they do stripping and assembling
of various parts. During this process, they develop the ability of making new machines through inquisitiveness, fun and experimentation.
The STEM kits are designed specifically to teach Scientific Inquiry and the Nature of Science. Some of the
STEM Kits available in our Lab are shown as follows:
